Stay tuned for Alex, Barney, Fred, Jackie, Sweet Pea, and a little white dog who I didn't name.

Dusty
Thanksgiving 2008

I was on my way to go run, and noticed 2 dogs running along Palm Drive. Drove to an adjacent unincorporated road, and called to the dogs, not seeing them, but hoping they would come to me over the sand burm. After a couple of minutes, I was going to leave, and one of the dogs appeared. She allowed me to pet her, but was not interested in getting into my car. My neighbor spotted me, and fortunately had treats in her car. After about 40 minutes, and me lifting her, I got her into my car. She was at my house for 2 days. I arranged for her to go to Orange County, and we dropped her on Thanksgiving (2008) morning. She is probably a year, super sweet, but scared, and very smart. She will now live in Orange County, and live in a loving home.

September 2008

Sorry for the horrible image, but I felt I needed to show this, since it has a happy ending. My friend and I and I were headed to the Parker one morning, and on the road just outside my house, saw my neighbor Marty, (huge dog lover) pulled over, and a dog on the side of the road. When we approached, this dog, (left top) actually wagged her tail. I decided right then, that I was not going to allow this dog to be euthenized. Marty waited 2 hours for Animal Control, then drove her to the Coachella Animal Shelter himself. He got her ID number, so I could call about her. The next day, I called. I was told she was probably used as a "bait dog" in dog fighting. I was understandably, horrified, not to mention, angry. They said she was seen by a vet, her injuries were being treated, but that they had no room for her to convalesce, and that she would be euthenized. They did not have the room. I said I would adopt her, and knew I would figure something out. My friend paid for the adoption. The picture (left below) is the same dog, 6 days later, when I went to pick her up. The transformation was amazing. The Shelter gave me 1 weeks worth of medicine, and we took care of her, while trying to find her a home. I sent out an email, but no takers. I remembered a great couple, Chuck and Val with a ranch down the street from me. I hadn't talked to them, since I met them the year before, but I had their card. I emailed them, with the pictures, and Val called me immediately, and said they would take her. Chuck named her Charlie, after himself, and she lives happily on their ranch, with their other adopted, rescued dogs.

Maddy
April 2008

I was running on the same road near my house, (where we would later find Charlie) (above). A grey truck drove fairly slowly by me, headed in the same direction I was running. It did a U turn, about 50 feet in front of me, and started back toward me. He passed me, and after he passed, I turned around to see what he was up to. A small white dog, ran toward me, as the truck was driving off down the road. I knew this truck had let her out, as I had just run through that very spot, and not seen any dogs anywhere. I carried her home, and as I walked home, I am fairly certain the same truck drove by again. I did not get the licence plate. She was matted, and looked neglected. She was a puppy, and very trusting. My friend took one look at her, and let's just say, Maddy is now in a loving home and gets along very well with my 3 dachshunds, Dieter, Zoey and Roxy. She is Roxy's best friend.

My neighbors Andy and Pam found this guy abandoned in our neighborhood. They had seen him hanging out in a certain spot, and finally got him. He was pretty agressive to strangers, but has turned into a loving dog. He was very matted (before picture) and now goes to the groomer regularly to maintain his nice little haircut. He now resides with Andy, Pam and Gi Gi.

Cooper, Gi Gi and Jack
July 2007

This is how it all began. I had moved from Orange County, and been in the desert for 10 days. My neighbors Andy and Pam told me they saw 3 little dogs running in our neighborhood near a vacent lot. The black guy (later to be named Jack) barked non stop and looked a little crazy and would not let us near his friends. A woman drove by and said she thought someone had dumped them there on the fourth of July. The temperatures during the day were around 112. I went back to the vacant lot the next day and found them in 3 individual holes they had dug to keep cool. For 3 days I fed them, and won their trust. Day 4, I managed to reach down and grab Gi Gi, but the other 2 ran away. Day 5, Friday the 13 of July was my lucky day. I got Jack but couldn't get Cooper. As I drove to my house with Jack in the car, I looked in my rear view mirror, and Cooper was running behind my car, but ran back as I pulled into my driveway. 2 hours later, Cooper was also in my car.

Cooper lives in Orange County with a great girl who is a nurse, and her boyfriend and their original dog. Gi Gi turned Andy and Pam into dog lovers. They have Gi Gi and Hobo, another dog they rescued from our neighborhood. Jack resides in Orange County with a Pot Belly Pig, and is now named Zack.
